Tharika Darshanie Hewage possesses a rich academic foundation in law, underpinned by both local and international qualifications. She is currently reading for a PhD in Law and a Master of Philosophy in Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M Hons.) in International Business Law with First Class honors from the University of Staffordshire, UK. Her undergraduate legal education includes an LL.B (Hons.) with Second Class Upper Division from the University of Colombo, completed in English medium. She is a qualified Attorney-at-Law with Second Class Honours from Sri Lanka Law College, and also holds professional credentials as a Notary Public (English), Company Secretary, and Commissioner for Oaths. Tharika has diversified her legal education through a Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Sciences from the University of Colombo and a Diploma in Management Accounting from CIMA. Her academic excellence is further demonstrated by outstanding results at school level, with 4 A grades in G.C.E. A/Ls (ranked 35th in Colombo District – English medium) and 9 A grades at G.C.E. O/Ls.
Lecture Profile
Tharika Hewage serves as a Lecturer in Law at Infinity Business School, where she has been instrumental in teaching Law for Chartered Accountancy and CMA programs since 2022. Her teaching expertise spans key legal disciplines such as Company Law, Commercial Law, International Business Law, and Legal Aspects of Business. She currently works as Assistant Manager – Legal & Governance at Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited, where she manages labour disputes, commercial litigation, compliance, company secretarial matters, and governance frameworks. She previously served as Group Legal Officer for the Lanwa Group, handling cases across Labour Tribunals, High Courts, and the Supreme Court. Her past roles include Counsel at the Attorney General’s Department (Corporation Branch), where she was engaged in Labour Tribunal and Arbitration matters, and Legal Consultant at Brandix Apparel Ltd. These roles, along with her experience at international firms and commissions, have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of both corporate and regulatory legal systems, which she brings into her lecturing with practical authority and relevance.
Contribution to the Profession
Tharika has made significant scholarly contributions to the legal profession through her numerous publications and academic engagements. Her writings cover a broad spectrum of legal topics, including disability rights, commercial mediation, pyramid schemes regulation, and election law, and have been published in respected journals such as the APIIT Law Journal, Colombo Law Journal, and Lloydians International Student Law Review. She has presented research at prestigious forums such as the SLIIT International Conference and the SAARC Law Students’ Conference, where she was awarded second place for her research paper. As Editor-in-Chief of the Colombo Law Journal in 2018 and an active member of university legal societies, she has played a key role in nurturing academic discourse.
